Walt Disney World wakes up early as Monstrous Summer All-Nighter kicks off with Mike and Sulley at welcome ceremony

Walt Disney World wakes up early as Monstrous Summer All-Nighter kicks off with Mike and Sulley at welcome ceremony
For the second time ever, Walt Disney World has let guests into the Magic Kingdom theme park for a full 24 hours, beginning this morning. At 6:00 a.m., Disney welcomed an excited - but slightly tired - crowd with a special version of the park’s daily opening ceremony, with Mike and Sulley of Pixar’s upcoming film “Monsters University” helping to start the Monstrous Summer All-Nighter.
With a song-and-dance routine and characters arriving via steam train, Disney started a full day of activities not only in Florida, but also at the Disneyland Resort in California, opening both parks for the special event, part ofLimited Time Magic.

Guests arriving early received Monstrous Summer buttons and special guides have been printed outlining the day’s special events, including Mike and Sulley appearing in a pre-parade and meeting and greeting with guests in Tomorrowland during the late night hours.
A popular item around the welcome moment were Mike Wazowski glasses, part of the merchandise rolled out for this event that also includes Sulley ear hats, T-shirts, cupcakes, and cake pops.

After the welcome ceremony ended, guests entered into the empty streets of the Magic Kingdom as the sun rose over the park, bathing its streets, statues, and iconic landmarks in a warm orange glow.

The All-Nighter fun continues through 6 a.m. tomorrow, May 25, 2013. A dance party will also take place in front of Cinderella Castle to keep guests awake in the wee hours of the morning, much like during One More Disney Day last year - the first time Disney held this event. Captain Jack Sparrow will make overnight appearances in Adventureland and screenings of “Monsters, Inc.” will take place in Tomorrowland as well.
And to stay tuned to the Magic Kingdom throughout the day from home, the Disney Parks Blog is offering a live stream inside the park.
